My god daughter has costume birthdays.

Last year was “The nightmare before Christmas” where we went as dc comic hereos and villains 

I went as the joker

This year was “Coraline” themed. I found it dark as a movie but neutered for the party. They wanted us to gloss over the stealing of children’s eyes and soles. Oh well

We were assigned the roles of Mr Bobinski, Other Bobinski, and mouse.

Who am I to say no to costumes!

The references

I took a thrift suit coat and 

• cut the bottom to shape
• sewed on the removed fabrics as tails
• Painted on gold cording
• Built medals and shoulder boards from cardboard

I made hats from cardboard. In the end I only bought two coats for this project

machine embroidery

my sewing machine (janome MC9900) has an embroidery carriage with it. I can do upto 200x300mm almost 8x5"

i have done a handfull of pillows and shirts with it. mostly i use it to augment projects. but i did sell a few items on etsy from it

my first attempt. it was done on some scrap muslin fabric with embroidery floss. image was traces by laying hoop over tablet with b/w

overdue update

i have learned to do embroidery on the machine.

i have culled the herd

• good and i mean good sewing/embroidery machine the Janome MC9900
• i hate the janome coverstitch machine. i never use it
• my brother 234d serger is my bathingsuit workhorse
• i have a chinese walking foot machine i sew leather on. its like driving on ice. you can only steer it and walk it through often times manually with the wheel

I have only made a few projects recently. some spandex leder hosen. and a ring master tail coat for a party

I have started learning hand embroidery.
